Dandelion Wine takes us into the summer of 1928, and to all the wondrous and magical events in the life of a 12-year-old Midwestern boy named Douglas Spaulding. This tender, openly affectionate story of a young man’s voyage of discovery is certainly more mainstream than exotic. No walking dead or spaceships to Mars here. Yet those who wish to experience the unique magic of early Bradbury as a prose stylist should find Dandelion Wine most refreshing.

Hearts of Three by a well-known American writer Jack London (1876–1916) is a model of an adventure novel. Its plot is based on the adventures of a young New York millionaire, Francis Morgan, his friend and distant relative Henry and charming Leoncia – all of them are united by the search of Maya’s treasures and romantic love. Dangerous wanderings through the Cordilleras, mystical prophecies, mysterious caves where every step hides deadly danger, stockjobbing intrigues, the insidiousness of enemies, and the betrayal of some friends – this is the way which the heroes of the novel have to overcome. The novel is very easily read; it arouses belief in genuine friendship, true love, and such people’s virtues as honesty, courage, nobility, and self-sacrifice.

W. Somerset Maugham, was an English playwright, novelist, and short story writer. He was among the most popular writers of his era and reputedly the highest-paid author during the 1930s.

In The Happy Man by W. Somerset Maugham we have the theme of uncertainty, happiness, change, humility and gratitude. Taken from his Collected Short Stories collection the story is narrated in the first person by an unnamed narrator and after reading the story the reader realises that Maugham may be exploring the theme of uncertainty.

At the end of the novel, the main heroes realize that each man’s life has attractions and difficulties of their own, and only wise and praiseworthy deeds make a man truly happy.
