Austen, Jane. Pride and Prejudice  / J. Austen. London : Harper Collins Publishers Ltd, 2013.404 p.(Collins Classics).

Austen‘s best-loved tale of love, marriage and society in class–conscious Georgian England still delights modern readers today with its comedy and characters. It follows the feisty, quick–witted Elizabeth Bennet as her parents seek to ensure good marriages for her and her sisters in order to secure their future. Through the irrepressible characters of Mr Collins and Mrs Bennet and the sensitivities and nuances of the relationship between Darcy and Elizabeth, Austen’s skill and artistry as a writer shines.

Jane Eyre, the story of a young girl and her passage into adulthood, was an immediate commercial success at the time of its original publication in 1847. Its representation of the underside of domestic life and the hypocrisy behind religious enthusiasm drew both praise and bitter criticism, while Charlotte Brontë's striking expose of poor living conditions for children in charity schools as well as her poignant portrayal of the limitations faced by women who worked as governesses sparked great controversy and social debate. Jane Eyre, Brontë's best-known novel, remains an extraordinary coming-of-age narrative, and one of the great classics of literature.

Fitzgerald, Francis Scott . The Great Gatsby  / F. S. Fitzgerald.K. : Znannia, 2015.200 p.  – (English Library).

Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald is one of the greatest American writers, a member of the "Lost Generation" of the 1920s. “The Great Gatsby” (1925) is his most celebrated and exemplary novel of the "Jazz Age", a term he coined himself. The author, in an extraordinarily masterly manner, described the post–war generation's psychological prostration under the guise of the carnival brilliance of life. The novel is a fascinating, exquisitely crafted tale of America in the 1920s in which the American Dream turned out to be a tragedy.

Saki. The Treasure Ship and Other Stories = Галеон скарбів та інші історії / Saki.К. : Znannia, 2014.176 p. – (English Library).

Saki (Hector Hugh Munro) was an English prose-writer and journalist. His pen-name, translated from Farsi, means "cupbearer". Saki's short satirical stories are notable for the subtlety of their humour, well–turned phrases, the refinement of dialogues and slightly cynical irony. These amusing tales acquaint readers with the British society of the Edwardian epoch in its diversity, half-opening unusual, sometimes grotesque, absurd or even mystical sides of outwardly ordinary and safe reality.

Stevenson, Robert Louis. Treasure Island = Острів скарбів / R. L. Stevenson.К. : Znannia, 2015.256 p.(English Library).

Robert Louis Stevenson —the great master of English prose of Scottish origin, the representative of neoromanticism. the novel "Treasure Island" being the pearl of his creative work. The author in a masterly manner demonstrates that the jeopardies of the desert island, the vile tricks of covetous pirates and mysterious treasures — these very things are necessary for the young dreamer to take the most adventurous journey in his life. And the benevolence of the readers of many generations which made this book the classics of the world literature only proves the success of such a formula for adventures.

Wilde, Oscar. The Picture of Dorian Gray = Портрет Доріана Грея / O. Wilde.К. : Znannia, 2015.288 p.(English Library).

Oscar Wilde was an Irish writer, playwright, poet, essayist, an outstanding representative of European decadence. “The Picture of Dorian Gray” is the only published Oscar Wilde's novel. The publication of this literary masterpiece caused grand scandal evoking contradictory responses from his contemporaries. But at the same time, it made the author famous and provided him the place in the pantheon of the best–known writers of the world. Combining the features of the gothic novel, the comedy of manners, and the treatise on interrelation between art and morality, “The Picture of Dorian Gray “ still remains an enigma for the readers and, because of it, is as relevant today as it was many years ago.
